1 **Before processing your first payroll in January:**

3 * Go to the **"File"** menu and select **"Backup"** to create a backup of your company.
4 * Click on **"Check for Updates"** on the main **"Payroll Navigator"** screen and install any updates that are available.
5 * If you are asked for a password during the update, __enter the password for the computer__.
6 * If you have your new State Unemployment Rate, go to **"Payroll Items"** and double-click on your** "State Unemployment" **and **enter the new rate for the year**.

8 If you have not received your new State Unemployment Rate, it can be entered when you receive it and be retroactively applied to paychecks for the year.
